About this Blog

The prophet Micah reminds us of the tribute that the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob expects from us: to do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with Him. The twin requirements of doing justice and loving mercy capture what I believe is both the vocation and the challenge for the practicing lawyer. That will be the recurring topic for this blog.

About Me

I am a full-time lawyer and a part time theologian, with a JD degree from the University of Texas and an M. Litt. in Divinity from the University of St. Andrews, where I am an honorary research fellow, acting as managing editor to the online journal Bible and the Contemporary World. I am a life-long Episcopalian and a Chicago Cubs season ticket holder. I have been happily married to Anne for 41 years, have a son (Mark) and daughter (Elizabeth) of whom I am immensely proud, and a grandfather. Many thanks to all of them for reading and commenting on my postings — and listening to the ideas all these years. Having a lawyer or a theologian as a spouse or father can be difficult, because they can be so convinced that they have figured everything out. Having one person be both must be, at times,  insufferable.
